If you check that a leading digital marketing company in Kolkata hosted an event yesterday to shed light on some important aspects of web design. The event was hosted in a well-known city hall.
In an inauguration speech, the CEO said, “If you own a business, a website is an added ID to your must-have identity proofs. It’s a window to your business. The presentation brings your audiences the kind of information they need and expect. A collage of images and texts completes its appearance. As someone who has studied digital marketing, I cannot stress the importance of design highly enough. If development is the skeleton, design is the soul of your website. Now, common folks are often confused about interaction design and visual design. I would try to explain their differences for the designers and developers, especially the budding ones and who have joined the industry most recently”.
Both interaction design and visual design play a key role in optimizing user experience. Both work across different mobile platforms. Together, they make a seamless presentation of aesthetics and technological aspects to perfectly meet the users’ instincts and engage them on digital platform. However, the way they work towards achieving the goal makes them different from each other. “First of all, you need to have a clear concept of interaction and visual design. Interaction design implies how the specific elements of a website, software or application interact with the users. In other words, interaction design emphasizes on structural behaviour of an interactive system on a digital platform.
Visual design is about the aesthetics of a website and includes colours, images, icons, fonts, space, illustrations, typography and layout. Visual design focuses on creating visual appeal of the software and applications”, he added. From his elaborations on two vital components of a website design, it becomes clear that both are made to work together for a cohesive and comprehensive user experience. “The differences between these two can be discussed in the light of several aspects. I’ll first talk about the goal. Interaction design improves the functionality of a website whereas visual design promotes aesthetic appeal of the same”, a senior web developer from the web design and development company Kolkata chipped in.
He then switched to other components to explain the differences between the two types of design, which are integral and vital to a website. “Visual design focuses on visual design elements whereas interaction design highlights both the visual and invisible elements to deliver functional experience to the users. Visual design requires the designers to have sound knowledge of graphic design, visual communication and branding. Interaction design covers the same areas and in addition, requires commanding expertise in prototyping.
If we consider output, interaction design deals with the five dimensions of a website, which allow users to view or manipulate the applications. Visual design represents a brand’s digital identity”, he concluded. It was a grand event and everyone was talking highly about the speakers.
